Norton Antivirus Software protects your system against detected viruses, malwares, spywares, bots, Trojan viruses and many such malicious items which affects your data. It even gives warnings while downloading files from the internet. Many big companies use Norton Antivirus to protect their system and whole network, but it is highly memory intensive program. Sometimes it happens that because of new software installation that is installed, you get a  warning you to disable the antivirus program to work those applications properly or install it properly. There are different ways through which you can disable Norton antivirus. You can disable it either using Norton software or with the help of system tray.

Let us understand first how to disable Norton antivirus software using Norton Software itself. In the newer versions of Norton Antivirus, it will allow you to disable directly through Norton program. You can also disable the program in two different ways. First way is locate the Norton Antivirus icon in the quick menu of the taskbar at bottom of your computer. If you can’t find there then you can find it from desktop. Click the “Options” from Norton Antivirus and go to “Auto-Protect” tab. Uncheck “Load Auto-Protect at Startup” checkbox, and click on “Ok” to confirm the action. Then navigate to system tray, which is located on bottom-right corner of your screen. Right-click on the Norton’s small icon and

choose “Disable Auto-Protect”. You can also choose duration from the given options that how long you wish to keep the Norton Antivirus disabled. It will prompt a dialog box asking for your confirmation. Confirm it and close it.

Second way is load Norton Antivirus program, go to settings menu and uncheck the box next to “Smart Firewall” option. It will also disable the Norton antivirus program.

It is also possible to disable Norton Antivirus temporarily. For that, Login to Norton Internet Security (NIS) as a supervisor access. Select the “Status and Settings” option from the left pane and click “Security”. “Turn off” the program in security menu and confirm the dialog box. When you want to enable it follow the same steps just choose “Turn On” option from the “Security”. If you are using older versions of Norton Antivirus then it may happen that you cannot disable using Norton program, so for that you can use system configuration. Go to “Start” menu and select the “Run”. Type “MSCONFIG” and press enter to open the System Configuration dialog box. Click the “Startup” tab which will show you list of all the programs which will be loaded when the computer is turned on. Locate Manufacturer Symantec Corporation and uncheck all the boxes against it. Once it is done click “OK” button and restart the computer. After restarting the computer you will find that Norton Antivirus software is disabled. If you want to enable follow the same steps just check the box which you uncheck previously for manufacturer Symantec Corporation. In any of the above case when you disable Norton antivirus, a bubble message will display in the Windows System tray, which is the symbol of disable antivirus.
